2025년 3월 모의고사 32번 빈칸 유형은, 타인의 인식에 대한 인간의 불안이라는 주제의 글입니다.

​

빈칸 유형이지만 곳곳에 어법 포인트가 숨어 있고 대명사로 연결되는 문장이 있어서 어법이나 삽입으로 변형 가능합니다.

In one of the most famous passages of Being and Nothingness, “The Look,” Jean-Paul Sartre describes the peculiar vulnerability that develops when someone goes from seeing (being a self with a perspective on the world) to being seen (having to confront the perspective of another on one’s self).

☞ 인간은 직접 보는 상태에서 타인에 의해 보이는 상태가 될 때 특유의 취약성이 생깁니다.

He illustrates it with the example of someone looking through a keyhole who suddenly finds himself caught by someone watching him.

☞ seeing: 내가 열쇠구멍으로 보는 것

    being seen: 누군가가 나를 보고 있다는 것을 깨달음

The look of the other is always unnerving, Sartre argues, not only because we momentarily recognize ourselves in it through our imagination of their judgment of us but also because we don’t.

☞ 우리에 대한 타인의 판단을 상상을 통해 인식한다는 것은 우리가 그 판단을 알 수 없기 때문이겠죠. 우리가 알 수 없는 그 타인의 판단은 우리를 항상 불안하게 만들고요.

We can always step back, challenge our perception of others’ perceptions of ourselves, or explain them away — but we don’t know what these perceptions really are. Others have the distinctive power of making us feel judged in ways we cannot fully control.

☞ 우리는 그 판단(인식)이 무엇인지 모르고, 그 판단 방식을 통제하지도 못합니다.

Social life is all about the fear that accompanies our awareness that we can never .

☞ 우리는 그 판단 방식을 알 수 없다는 인식 때문에 사회적 관계에서 불안함을 느낍니다. 빈칸 문장을 보니 never이라는 부정어가 있어요. 그렇다면 우리는 반대로 타인의 인식을 알 수 있다는 방향의 빈칸을 골라야 합니다. 따라서, access what the other sees를 넣어주면 원하는 내용의 흐름대로 연결되겠죠?

We can only guess.

☞우리가 타인의 인식을 알 수 없기에(we don’t know what these perceptions really are), 상상(imagination-3번째 문장)하고 추측(guess)할 뿐입니다.
